World over Maxillofacial Trauma, Orthognathic surgery and Oral Oncology are considered an important part of the core curriculum in Maxillofacial surgical training, However by no means can it be confidently asserted, that all our trainees acquire adequate knowledge and skills to independently manage these problems at the end of their training. On the contrary, even adequate exposure to some of the aspects of these sub-specialties may be lacking in a number of training programs. In order to address this issue the AOMSI has started hands on fellowship programs in the sub-specialties of Maxillofacial Trauma, Orthognathic surgery and Oral Oncology
Name of the Programs:
1) AOMSI - Fellowship in Maxillofacial Trauma
2) AOMSI - Fellowship in Orthognathic surgery
3) AOMSI – Fellowship in Oral Oncology
Period of Training
1 Year duration for Maxillofacial Trauma
1 Year for Orthognathic Surgery
2 Years for Oral Oncology
1) The candidates should have an MDS in oral and Maxillofacial surgery or equivalent and should have been qualified for less than 3 years.
2) Should be a life member of the AOMSI
3) Should be selected by a due process of selection by the AOMSI Fellowship committee as a suitable candidate who needs training
The recent fellowship examination was held at Dr D Y Patil Dental college, Navi Mumbai in the month of August 2017, with the co-ordination of Dr Mukul Padye. Approximately 90 candidates appeared for the examination and successful candidates were interviewed by the fellowship committee and allotted to the recognized Cranio-Maxillofacial trauma, Orthognathic & Oral cancer centers pan India.
